| Like many writers, i began developing a love for writing with poetry. My first memory of anything like that was when i was trying to remember the rhyme: - Quote :
Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair... And then i blanked on the rest. So i said, "So, I gave him a wig to wear..." I was a kid, what can i say? But the feeling I got from that minuscule act of creation started something, and the flame has burned hotter as every year went by. Now i write the rare poem, but my first love is novel-writing. My first novel sprang from what i felt was a disappointing genre--Lesbian Fiction. I could not relate to the stories lesbian writers were telling. Many of the characters i read about were damaged and ethically challenged and i wanted to read about women who were more like me (not damaged nor ethically challenged). So i said, "I guess I'll have to write one of those books myself." And so I did. The result was an expansion of a short story, Armchair Detective. Since then, I've done many rewrites on that book and i think it's probably in it's final version (but who knows...I can always go back and find things to rewrite because I am continually learning....But those are the two events that stick in my mind. Every writer has that pivotal moment when they realize they must write in earnest. Please share here what yours was... | |
