I finally did get on board with Twitter, though at first, it seemed senseless. If you work with it for a bit, it starts to pay off. I have managed to increase traffic to all my sites and increase book sales by using it. The big trick is using hash tags. FOr those of you who don't know, a hashtag is a term that's used frequently by other Twitter folks. Placing a hash mark/pound sign (#) before the word will make it appear for those who are watching those tags.

To get followed according to the hashtag, go to http://twitter.com/hashtags

and opt-in/follow them. Then, whenever you post (Tweet) and use a hashtag with a word or phrase like, #amwriting --it will appear on hashtags.org. You can go to that site and click on any of those and it will show you all the posts made with that hashtag. Also, you'll want to type in a tag of interest and then subscribe to it, so you'll see all the posts related to it.

Another quick way to find that information, is to go to http://www.hashtweeps.com/

There, you can type in just the word or phrase, and find people according to the tags they use. Pretty nifty, huh? Another way to create a global village for those with similar interests.

Here are the hashtags I've found most useful so far:
#lesbian (bc some of my books are for the lesbian market)

*you will of course develop your own list. A quicjk sidebar::: I use Nottab lite, and it's always open while i'm working, minimized to a small box off to the side. I have what i call "frequency files" for a lot of different things. Twitter posting is one of those files. I have the hashtag list there, the URLs to my sites and to posts i want to share, with the tinyURL version of them underneath, so I can just drag or copy paste them to the Tweet box on Twitter. Saves lots of time. Any text that i use frequently, i handle this way. I do enough typing, so I cut those corners whenever possible.
*http://tinyurl.com is also a fantastic tool to shorten your post when you post a long length and it easts up your character limit.

So--If you want to find out if a hashtag is actually being used, or exists at all, go to any of these sites and type in your word and see.

Feel free to post in this thread anything about Twitter, and your ID's,per the Subject line.
